Aiguilhe 1999

Tasting Notes

This wine is serious even in a lighter year. It exhibits some high quality toasty new oak, a dense ruby/purple color, and sweet, medium to full-bodied, concentrated flavors redolent with notes of olive, black currant and pain grille. Drink it over the next 10-12 years.

A sleeper of the vintage, the 1999 is the first vintage to reflect the new owner's reduced yields and winemaking philosophy. The result is a dazzling blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. The wine exhibits a black/purple color, followed by an exotic nose of spice box, licorice, coffee, and Asian spices. Full-throttle fruit flavors, an unctuous texture, and a seamless personality can be found in this outstanding example of a Cotes de Castillon. Moreover, it will drink well young, yet age nicely for a decade or more. Don't miss it!
