I hadn't tried this since 2004 and like many '99s today, it remains deeply colored. While there is a trace of wood present the nose is an elegant and very pure combination of floral and spice notes sitting atop still relatively primary ripe black pinot fruit. The equally pure and refined medium weight flavors possess excellent density and terrific length on the well-balanced finale. The intensity does a slow build from the mid-palate and explodes onto the still firmly tannic finish. This is built to age and while it could certainly be enjoyed now as it's by no means strict or austere, it's clear that there is more to come so I would advise continued patience. Tasted twice since 2016 with spot on notes.
