Performing better from bottle than it did from barrel, the 2007 Gazin is spicy, but the oak component is more restrained than normal. It is a relatively big-styled wine for a 2007, with impressive richness, a dark ruby/purple color, notes of lead pencil shavings, ink, black currants, sweet dark plums, and balsamic. Cellar it for 1-2 years and consume it over the following 10-15. Drink 2011-2026.
The 2007 Gazin is a Pomerol that I had not tasted for several years. It has a refined bouquet, not intense or overly complex, but offering pretty truffle-tinged dark berry fruit and a hint of oyster shell. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannin, linear and masculine in style, tapering in towards a slightly mean finish that could have benefited from more flesh, pulling up short on the aftertaste. Drink soon. Tasted February 2017.
Drink Date 2017 - 2025
Deep red. Reticent nose hints at dark raspberry and beefsteak tomato. Supple on entry, then rather withdrawn, even severe, in the middle palate, showing decent spicy dark fruit intensity but limited sweetness today. Finishes with firm tannins. An awkward showing.
