Volnay Taillepieds, Domaine Marquis d'Angerville 1999

Tasting Notes

After 10 years this has entered into a "shut down tight" stage and it required more than 2 hours in a decanter to begin to open. Still quite elegant, pure and primary with solid density and excellent length, all wrapped in a finish oozing minerality and firm but not aggressive tannins. This is a classic Taillepieds but I was definitely too optimistic in terms of its initial drinking window as it's not even close at this point. Patience continues to be required and based on a bottle out of my own cellar, I won't touch another bottle for at least 5 years.
