Sassicaia, Tenuta San Guido 1987

Tasting Notes

Lively crimson with evolution at the rim. Not 100 per cent clear. Definitely older, more evolved nose. Some spice and cough medicine. Thick. Dense. Great sore throat-warmer. Less opulent than the Masseto 1987. Good acidity. Neat.

Poured from magnum. Just mid ruby with orange rim, but not really old looking. Distinct undergrowth and tobacco leaf. With air, there is sweet fruit and fine oak note. Really fine perfume with aeration. Lifted acidity structuring the perfumed fruit. Muscular tannin, but not rough. Perhaps not huge length on the finish. At its peak it seems, but will stay there for a while.
