Dark plum/garnet-colored, with an evolved, mature, cedary, spice box, fruit cake, coffee, smoky, fruit-scented bouquet, this seductive, medium-bodied, fruit-driven 1997 offers plenty of appeal. Drink this spicy Pauillac over the next 5-6 years. Last tasted, 3/01.
The 1997 is a blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, and 19% Cabernet Franc. This excellent, dense purple-coloured wine offers moderate tannin, plenty of juicy cassis fruit, low acidity, and a plump, silky-textured finish. An opulent wine, it should be a real crowd-pleaser upon its release later this year. Anticipated maturity: now-2010.
The 1997 d'Armailhac (a blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, and 19% Cabernet Franc) displays a deep ruby color, followed by an evolved, plummy, currant, cedar, and spice nose, copious quantities of sweet black fruit on the attack, and a soft, medium-bodied, easy-going finish with little grip or delineation. This will be a fruity, forward, low acid wine to drink during its first 7-10 years of life. Last tasted, 3/98.
