CDP Cuvée Mourre des Perdrix, Domaine de la Charbonnière 1999

Tasting Notes

The deep ruby-colored 1999 Chateauneuf du Pape Mourre des Perdrix is a blend of 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and 15% Mourvedre from vines averaging 30-50 years of age. Atypically for the vintage, it requires 1-3 years of cellaring. It offers glorious notes of blackberry and new saddle leather aromas. Medium to full-bodied, impressively concentrated, and pure, with moderate tannin, this is a beautifully knit, well-balanced effort.

While the 1999 Chateauneuf du Pape Mourre des Perdrix (70% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 15% Mourvedre) sports a still lively ruby color, that acidity is just starting to dominate and it’s another wine I wouldn't push any further with regards to aging. Still, it’s certainly enjoyable today and has pretty notes of black cherries, garrigue and herbs in a medium-bodied, fresh package.
