Tasting Notes

The dense purple-colored 2013 Gazin offers a sweet kiss of licorice, mocha and black cherries along with a surprisingly ripe, medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, and nicely integrated oak, acidity and tannin. A touch of acidity in the finish provides vibrancy to this big 2013. It should drink well for 10-15 years

The 2013 Gazin has a light, tertiary woodland-scented bouquet with rather broody black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with red berry, cedar and graphite on the entry, dry tannins with some hardness towards the finish that will hopefully soften with bottle age. Disjointed at the moment, leave this a couple of years because there is presence here. It just needs its component parts to knit together and hopefully they will with bottle age, hence the plus sign next to my score.

Nicolas de Bailliencourt told me that for the second year running the Grand Vin is pure Merlot. It has a perfumed and much more floral bouquet compared to recent years. There is fine precision here, though it is not a powerful Gazin. The palate is medium-bodied and just a little pinched on the entry. The structure feels firm, lending it a mannered, conservative feel, whilst the finish is balanced with a truffle tinged finish
