Nuits St Georges Richemone VV Ultra, Domaine Perrot-Minot 2012

Tasting Notes

**Note: from vines first planted in 1902; 50% whole clusters**
There is a background application of wood on the brooding nose that is also intensely floral with a broad array of spice notes to the black raspberry, cassis and exotic tea aromas. This is a big and very concentrated effort that is overtly powerful with the same density and extract that does a similar job of buffering the firm but not hard tannic spine on the textured and palate staining finish. This sleekly muscular effort isn't quite as refined but it's impressive all the same.

The 2012 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Les Richemoines Cuvee Ultra comes from a small parcel of vines planted back in 1902. It includes 50% whole cluster fruit and there are three barrels this year. It has an enticing bouquet with black cherries, cracked black pepper, tertiary notes and a little undergrowth. The palate has more matiere than the regular cuvee with a fine line of acidity and just a touch more backbone towards the persistent finish. This is very fine and should age well over the next 15 years.
