The 2014 Latour a Pomerol has a similar bouquet to the 2014 La Grave-à-Pomerol at first, yet there is immediately more intensity here, still tertiary with scents of warm gravel on a summer's day and black truffle developing with time in the glass. The palate is well structured, a solid backbone here that supports the layers of spicy blackberry and wild strawberry fruit. This is a Pomerol whereby the more I get to know it, the more I fall for its charms and appreciate that tension and energy on the finish. There is a real flourish to this Pomerol that surpasses its showing from barrel. Drink Date 2019-2040
This is a traditional red with strawberry leaves, lemon rind and wet earth. Very aromatic. Medium to full body, firm and silky tannins and a fruity, chocolate and walnut character. Always refined yet powerful. Better in 2022.
Rich and dense - quite a contrast to the more transparent La Grave tasted immediately before. Powerful, savoury and meaty. Lots of acidity and tannins with the fruit only just retaining the upper hand. Big and bold and with lovely texture. Very savoury, dense wine. Brooding.
Drink 2025-2040
Very solid, with a core of crushed raspberry, blackberry and plum fruit infused with shaved vanilla bean and licorice root notes. Has a slightly brambly feel overall, delivering a tug of dark earth through the finish that imparts muscle. Energetic, and will cellar well. Best from 2020 through 2030. 2,083 cases made.
Plush, rich and densely coloured with hints of graphite and green pepper, this is a textured, sweet, well structured Pomerol with ripe plum and blackberry fruit and tannins that build on the palate. Deceptively forward, it will age beautifully in bottle.
The Château Latour à Pomerol 2014 has a more substantial bouquet compared to the La Grave à Pomerol, still quite masculine and tertiary in style, but with more fruit intensity coming through, hints of gravel and truffle. The palate is medium-bodied with quite fine tannin, noticeable acidity, moderate depth and a linear, focused finish that refuses to fan out as it would have done in a more propitious season. This should be a "stately" Pomerol, one that will be forgivably austere. Drink: 2018 - 2032
Plenty of fruit in this subtle young wine with blackberry, cherry and wet earth character. Full-bodied, chewy and long. Lively acidity on the finish.
