Tasting Notes

Robert Parker, Bordeaux Book (4), December 2003

1997: The 1997 comes across as a soft, open-knit, attractive, round, fruity wine without good depth and length. If it continues to perform in this manner, it will merit consumption in its first 7-8 years of life. I was charmed by its forward aromatics and round texture.

This is an elegant, pleasingly-textured Branaire with a dark ruby/purple color, and tell-tale aromas of vanillin, lead pencil, minerals, black raspberries, and cherries. The wine has sweet fruit, low acidity, plenty of cherry liqueur/cassis-like flavors, no hard edges, and excellent to outstanding purity. It will be delicious young, yet deep for 10-15 years.
