Tasting Notes

Robert Parker, Bordeaux Book (4), December 2003

Bright, dark crimson. Very rich and flattering on the nose (that chaptalisation trick again?). Lively and complete. There is quite a bit of acidity but with food this could be a great vintage to drink now. Dusty tannins on the finish - but a light charge of them.

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (128), April 2000

The color is a saturated opaque purple, and the wine extremly low in acidity, but captivating. There are gorgeous layers of sweet cassis liqueur-like fruit intermixed with vanillin, lead pencil, and mineral aromas. Medium-bodied, with outstanding concentration, and as smooth a texture as will ever be found in such a young Sociando- Mallet, this wine will drink beautifully young, and last for 12-15 years. Very impressive. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2014.
