It appears to be on a hot streak lately, turning out excellent, sometimes outstanding wines that remain reasonably priced among Bordeaux's classified growths. The 1997 (53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot) is the product of a ruthless selection. The wine possesses some tannin, but its most obvious traits are its dark ruby/purple color, and sweet, smoky, black currant and cherry-scented nose that jumps from the glass. Fleshy and silky textured, this nicely-layered, pure, rich, medium-bodied Pauillac will drink well young, yet last for 10-12 years.
