Barolo & Brunello Anteprima

Italy has been blessed with a brace of stunning vintages for their two most important wine regions. We have tasted hundreds of samples from across the two regions and have highlighted our favourite wines in the offers below.

2016 Barolo

2016 Barolo

We're forever hearing phrases like "best vintage since X" or "greatest wine ever made here" but ultimately the proof of the pudding is in the eating. So when we heard that 2016 Barolo might be such a vintage, we dashed out to Piedmont to see for ourselves. Click here to read our blog

We wanted to taste the full range at some lesser-known producers as we thought that would be the ultimate acid test for the vintage. We found that, from the Barberas through to the Barolo cru bottlings, there is a remarkable level of concentrated pure fruit coupled with a freshness, acidity and energy. We were so smitten with the wines that we have decided to start offering them now, before the press is released although the few soundbites we have heard would suggest that these wines will be very well received.

We have focussed on the very best Barolos that we tasted on our trip (and one new Barbaresco producer that was so good, we just had to include it). Everything is available to buy in 6 bottle cases so there's plenty of opportunity to get comprehensively involved across the board.

We think this is a truly great vintage for Barolo – one that will appeal to both Nebbiolo novices and aficionados alike. In fact, there is so much to like for anyone who loves great wine.

2015 Brunello di Montalcino

2015 Brunello di Montalcino

Coming off the back of the relatively disappointing 2014 vintage, 2015 in Brunello was destined to be much-hyped and well-promoted by winemakers. Whilst it was a hot vintage, acid levels were higher than normal and that strange but very welcome combination resulted in wines that are rich, sumptuous with good freshness and serious length.

At the time of writing, only James Suckling has released his thoughts on the vintage. He calls it "a fairy-tale vintage...a historical year for Brunello di Montalcino that nobody should miss. The wines show impressive precision of vivid fruit, fine tannins and freshness in acidity despite their ripeness and richness which makes them some of the most exciting in years."

We have brought you the pick of the wines that have been released so far. There will be more as time goes on - not all wines have been released yet - but you can be confident that all of these wines are benchmarks for their respective producers and of this excellent vintage. All wines are packed in 6 bottle cases, giving you the option to buy across the spectrum.
