Two of the finest wines of Bordeaux 2016 were released this morning.
Proprietor Valmy Nicolas is convinced that La Conseillante has made its greatest ever wine in 2016 and the scores from the critics bear this out. 99/100 from James Suckling, 96/98 from the Wine Advocate, 96 from Decanter and so on. The price is £1860.
There is no doubt in our minds that Figeac is one of the most profound wines of 2016. This has First Growth quality written all over it. We scored it above even Cheval Blanc and it ties as our top wine of St Emilion with Ausone. Neal Martin in the Wine Advocate scores it 98/100 and declares it "stunning". Jancis rates it 19/20 (a huge score for her) and Decanter gives it 98. The price is £1860 per dozen. Normally a wine like this would be instantly sold out, but we love Figeac and have built up a good-sized allocation over the years. Consequently this is a rare example of a top 2016 Bordeaux that is within estimate and actually available for sale (but you may need to be quick!).
Also available now is Valandraud at £1550.
Finally we have the 2nd tranche of Lafite which allows us to calculate our average cost price after they released only 50% of last year's volume on a 1st tranche. We are now allocating all pre-orders and we expect to have a few cases remaining at £6000 per dozen.
