En Primeur News : Wednesday, 16th May 2018
Today we have two very contrasting releases. Beychevelle 2017 is out at £650 and this is a lower price than that of any other vintage of Beychevelle in the market today. This is what the selling of wines en primeur should be all about and what a shame it is that other producers don't understand this simple rule.
Rieussec has been released at the same price as the three previous vintages. It is optimistically offered at £495 per dozen bottles. This is certainly one of the finest Sauternes of the vintage, but you would have to have your head buried deep in the sand to be unaware that more mature vintages are widely available at lower prices, including the sensational 2009 and 2010. We currently offer :
2007 £310 (NM 92)
2009 £350 (NM 97)
2010 £330 (NM 96)
This afternoon we have Talbot, following on from the release of neighbour Beychevelle earlier today. At £456 per case this is a fair price and you'd be hard-pressed to find any vintage of Talbot in the market today at much less than this. Quality-wise it may be a touch behind the lower-priced Langoa Barton but Talbot is a very popular brand around the world.
