En Primeur News : Wednesday, 13th June 2018
Following the release of Mouton Rothschild yesterday at £4320, we now have Chateau Margaux at the same price. Small quantities are also available of Pavillon Blanc at £1776 and Pavillon Rouge at £1620.
We have the release of 4 important right bank Chateaux this morning with Figeac and La Conseillante both out at £1476. Angelus and Pavie are both offered at £3360. Sadly all 4 of these wines are over their top estimates. Having increased their prices substantially in 2015 and 2016 these properties have priced their 2017's around 40% higher than the current market for their 2014s and the latter two are above their 2015s.
Another wine that is considerably above our top estimate is Ducru Beaucaillou at £1488. Bruno Borie has produced a very fine Saint Julien as always, but this is 30% more than Pichon Lalande and more than double the price of Léoville Barton. These wines are still available and have similar scores. Sadly, the most recent releases of this disappointing en primeur campaign show proprietors less and less in touch with the market and prices well above what consumers are prepared to pay for this vintage.
