Two important releases today! First up is Léoville Barton at £758. Possibly the finest wine made here since the 2010. It will look like a really good deal when some of the other 2nd Growths are released, and it's certainly the best value of the top wines released so far. A classic claret.
Grand Puy Lacoste makes consistently excellent wines and the 2018 is no exception. At £672 per dozen this is priced at £50 less than Clerc Milon and, as usual, it will probably be seen as the best value Pauillac of this vintage. Remember that 2018 is particularly successful for the strongly Cabernet Sauvignon based wines of the Northern Médoc.
Also out today is Kirwan from Margaux at £408. You can still buy the 2016 and 2015 cheaper than this, so it's hard to see this being a big success. In Pomerol the much-improved Beauregard is offered at £560.
We now have the release of Talbot at £518. Following the arrival of Jean-Michel Laporte (former wine-maker at La Conseillante) this property has really upped the quality level and this is one of the best Talbots that we've ever tasted from barrel - better than the 2009, 2010 and 2016. With any mature Talbot (even in an off vintage) selling at £600 plus per dozen, this seems like a reasonable price for what is one of Bordeaux's best known names around the world.
