En Primeur News: Thursday, 23rd May 2019
This afternoon we have the release of Domaine de Chevalier Rouge at £650 and the Blanc at £860. The scores for Chevalier Rouge are the highest that we have ever seen and these include a 99/100 rating from James Suckling. The price is the same as the 2016, 2010 and 2009 and the quality is there too.
This could be a busy day for en primeur 2018. First out of the blocks is Gruaud Larose at £660. This is the most expensive en primeur release ever for this property but their Wine Advocate score of 95/97 makes it the highest rated Gruaud since the legendary 1982 and 1986.
The three Chanel owned properties - all hotly awaited - have now been released.
Berliquet has been transformed by the new wine-making team from Canon with the 2018 being the finest wine that we have ever tasted from this property. The price is £396 and we don't think that you'll find a better 2018 St Emilion at under £400. This is available for all customers to purchase.
Canon is one of the hottest names in Bordeaux right now. The 2018 is an absolutely brilliant wine that could turn out to be even better than the 2015 here (current price £2100 per dozen). The 2018 is priced at £1044 per dozen. Unfortunately the Chateau has released this only to last year's buyers and there is 20% less volume. Therefore we can only offer it on that ratio to those who bought it last year and have pre-ordered this year. The good news is that we still have some 2017 at the opening price of £810 so other customers can now order 18 bottles of the 2018 with every 24 bottles of 2017 that they buy at the same time, subject to stocks remaining.
Rauzan Ségla 2018 is widely regarded as the greatest wine ever made at this 2nd Growth Margaux estate and it outscores even Palmer this year. The price is £900 per dozen. This is one of the most demanded wines of the vintage but sadly there is 40% less volume than last year so we have to allocate it to last year's buyers on that basis. We have been able to acquire some more 2017, still at the opening price of £648, and therefore we can offer 18 bottles of 2018 with every 30 bottles now ordered of 2017.
Also in Margaux we have du Tertre at £360
