En Primeur News: Tuesday, 28th May 2019
Yesterday’s holiday in the UK and US saw no significant releases, but today starts with the redically improved and refined Troplong Mondot at £918. For us, this is the best Troplong that we’ve ever tasted en primeur as the old super-concentrated, inky-black, wine-making style has been ditched for more sophistication, elegance and purity. If the role model for this Château used to be Pavie, then now it’s Canon. The price has also become less punchy and looks more reasonable in comparison to the 2016 which was sold at £1200.
We also have Issan from Margaux at £564. A very good wine that’s just above our top estimate.
St Julien's Léoville-Poyferré has been released at £816. We were impressed with this wine, as were the critics. However, at just inside our top estimate and only £4 cheaper than we currently list the higher-scoring 2016, we had hoped for a slightly better price.
Clos Fourtet is also available, priced just above our top estimate at £1008.
