Today sees the release of one of the UK’s favourite Bordeaux château – Lynch Bages at £1068 as well as Echo de Lynch Bages at £350.
The 2018 grand vin was nothing short of spectacular and it received huge scores from the critics. 96-98 points Wine Advocate, 97-98 James Suckling, 96-98+ Jeb Dunnuck, 96-99 Wine Spectator, 18+ Matthew Jukes and 97 from Decanter’s Jane Anson 97. This was one of our favourite wines from the Médoc in 2018 and one that we wholeheartedly recommend, especially given that the price - £1068 - is over 10% cheaper than the equally well received 2016, over 15% cheaper than the great 2010 and over 20% cheaper than the 2009. In fact, this price makes the 2018 cheaper than almost all vintages of Lynch Bages currently available on the market.
From Margaux, Château Giscours has been released. At £546, this is a touch below our current price for the 2016 vintage and seems reasonable given the scores - 96-97 points from Suckling and 93-96 from Galloni. Many critics believe 2018 to be the best Giscours yet.
We have also seen the releases of two tiny production St Emilions, namely Mondotte at £2052 and Beauséjour Duffau, which sold out to last years' buyers at the peculiar price of £1111.
