En Primeur News: Tuesday, 7th May 2019
Following yesterday's UK public holiday, we have several new releases to report this morning.
Now available are :-
Cantemerle at £246
Prieuré Lichine at £349
Malescot St Exupéry at £492
Pavie Macquin at £632
Valandraud at £1500
Yesterday we had the release of Beychevelle at £720 - a lower price than that of any decent vintage of this Château in the market today. That's exactly the point of en primeur - although many châteaux seem to have forgotten this. We were very pleased to be able to confirm all pre-orders but it is now sold out. If you wish to purchase any of the most popular wines of the vintage we strongly advise using our pre-order system. You can set price limits if you wish.
This morning saw the release of two very hot wines with Les Carmes Haut Brion and Calon Ségur new on the market. Very sadly these properties released their 2018s only to buyers of the 2017 vintage and even then with a 25% quantity reduction. So there will be none available for anyone who didn't buy last year and who has not pre-ordered this year. This is a great shame as these were 2 of our favourite wines. We hope that maybe there will be a chance for us to purchase more later on but, for the moment, these are sold out.
Haut Batailley's vineyards are located next to those of Pichon Lalande, Les Forts de Latour, Grand Puy Lacoste and Lynch Bages. Following the recent purchase of the property by the Cazes family of Lynch Bages there has been a real jump in quality and the 2018 here is not far behind that of the more illustrious (and more expensive) neighbours. There is a new label too.
Meyney is a Château whose recent vintages have impressed us enormously at blind tastings. The 2018 is huge and very impressive. There are some big ratings for this wine yet the price remains modest.
