The Only Wine We're Proud To Put Our Name On

There is only one wine in the Farr Vintners portfolio that carries our name on the label. There are two reasons for this. Firstly, we are incredibly proud to have a wine of the utmost pedigree and quality with our name and logo on it. Secondly, we are sworn to secrecy as to which prestigious Pauillac château is the source of this mystery cuvée – simply because they don’t want any wine from their property sold at such a low price.

We put it to the test yesterday and served it blind against nine classed growth and second wines from other leading properties in the same vintage – all of which sell for higher prices – and we’re really pleased (and not surprised) to say that it came out in first place.

At first it was brooding, firm and serious, but clearly of top quality. But after a couple of hours in the decanter it really blossomed to reveal benchmark Pauillac notes of graphite, liquorice and cassis. If you like your claret to have backbone, structure and a deep core of blackcurrant fruit then this is the wine for you. Archetypal Pauillac from a great château at an unbeatable price.

"This exceptional wine was made from grapes grown at one of the most famous châteaux in Pauillac, Bordeaux. After vinification and maturation in oak barrels for 20 months, it was bottled at the Château and labelled especially for Farr Vintners. Now four years old, this has a rich, cassis-driven nose of nutmeg, sweet vanilla and liquorice. The aromas are very pure, primary and youthful. The palate follows with dense, rich blackcurrant and plum framed by chalky, ripe tannins. Waves of toast and smoke are layered with more exotic star anise and nutmeg. This is juicy and still has plenty of grip, but with a decant it unfurls and is already delicious with food. The structure and length suggest that this has a great life ahead of it, too. Classic "house claret", very much in the style of the prestigious producer, this wine offers the Bordeaux purist a taste of the very best Cabernet Sauvignon from the heart of Pauillac."

16+ points, Farr Vintners

"The nose has blackcurrants and bramble richness yet freshness the start of the palate quite fresh. Mid richness chocolate, liquorice and tobacco the tannins are firm but ripe well integrated the mid richness is underpinned by fresher fruits bilberry and black cherry. Depth of fruit at the back the finish is long persistent with just a hint of mint. Drink 2018-2026."
