2015 Château Bernadotte
Following on from our sell-out offer of Château Bernadotte 2014, we now have the 2015 vintage in stock. This wine, from the heart of the Médoc, is plump and forward yet classically structured and it has to be the UK Wine Trade’s best Bordeaux deal. There is simply nothing else on the market with scores so high and prices so low, and no other merchant can match our price.
Bernadotte, situated just outside the border with Pauillac, is one of the leading Cru Bourgeois in the appellation and was, until recently, owned by Pichon Lalande. Under their ownership, the property's winemaking facilities were extensively renovated and modernised resulting in a much more consistent and better quality wine. Made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot and matured in oak barrels of which 30% are new each vintage, this is a lot of wine for very little money.
We purchased a large stock of this excellent vintage at a special price following its very good showing in the annual Southwold Blind Tasting - where it out-performed several classed growths and well-known neighbours such as La Lagune, Chasse Spleen, Potensac and Sociando Mallet. These are all wines that sell for two or three times the price.
Despite the extremely modest price of £135 per doz in bond (or £120 per doz for 2+ cases), this wine has recently received glowing reviews as well as scores in the 90s from three leading critics (see below).
Our own Master of Wine, Thomas Parker, has recorded a video tasting note which can be viewed here.

“The 2015 Bernadotte shoots above my expectation. It has a clean and fresh bouquet with plenty of appealing graphite notes. The palate is medium-bodied with dusky black fruit sprinkled with black pepper, good length and nicely focused. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting."

“One of the stand out Cru Bourgeois I was able to taste is the 2015 Château Bernadotte which checks in as 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, and the balance Petit Verdot, aged 12 months in one-third new barrels. It’s a terrific, floral, seamless, medium-bodied beauty that offers fine tannin, a silky texture, and integrated acidity. It shows the purity of the vintage and should drink nicely for a decade or more. 2018 - 2028"

“This has a very plush and slightly spicy palate with earthy notes as well as a gravelly, slightly leafy edge. The palate has a very composed core of fine, long tannins that finishes with gently grippy freshness. Try from 2021."
