We spend a lot of time here at Farr Vintners looking for quality, affordable, mature claret and, when we find something that we really like, we tend to buy as much of it as we can. Château Cantemerle is a Fifth Growth located just south of the Margaux appellation which has been making very good value wine for a long time now.
The terroir is predominately the very deep, fine gravel more commonly found further south in Pessac. This lends itself to a much more elegant, refined and 'lifted' style of Bordeaux where a freshness and a lightness of touch is more prevalent. When paired with the 2012 vintage - a forward, vibrant and soft style that we have championed for its early-drinking wines - this makes for a finely balanced, compact and cool style of Bordeaux.
This is a rare opportunity to buy Classified Growth Bordeaux that is ready to drink at under £20 a bottle in bond. We are even able to offer volume discounts, with the price £225 per dozen in bond for 2 dozen or more, and £220 per dozen in bond for 5 dozen or more.
The 2012 is the perfect example of classic claret that is ready to drink. This is a soft, approachable interpretation of left bank Bordeaux, defined by freshness with cherry fruit and supple, integrated tannins. You can see what our Master of Wine Thomas Parker thinks of the wine in the latest FVTV.

Deep ruby in colour, with cool, fresh blackcurrant and black cherry, hints of camphor and blackcurrant leaf, and a touch of sweet vanilla. There are the early hints of earthy development too, adding some nice complexity. The palate is compact and fresh with bright red and black berries shining through. There is some cedar and tobacco too, with the tannins wonderfully integrated into the wine, adding just the right level of savoury bite. The result on a finely etched finish is a moreish, well-proportioned and finely balanced Bordeaux, perfect to drink now or over the next 8+ years.

This red shows some cassis, blueberries and floral notes on the nose. Some tar, too. Medium to full body, juicy tannins and a fruity finish. Enticing wine. Drink now or hold.

Deep dark crimson. Sweet cherry chocolate on the nose. Rich but fluid. Lively, juicy, fresh and harmonious. Very attractive in a lighter style but has very good length too.
