Tasting Notes

This big, juicy, spicy Pomerol exhibits aromas and flavors of mulberries, raspberries, violets, licorice, and a touch of herbs. Made in a medium-bodied, upfront style, this round, seductive wine should drink well for 7-10 years. Drink 2010-2020.

The 2007 La Conseillante has a very pretty bouquet with tarry black cherry fruit, black truffle and incense. I appreciate the focus and freshness on this Pomerol. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a keen line of acidity, very focused with plenty of freshness and tension on the finish. Maybe the best bottle of this I have encountered, this La Conseillante is well worth hunting down. Tasted February 2017. Drink date 2017 - 2030.

Aromas of coffee, chocolate, violet and berry follow through to a solid core of ripe fruit for the vintage, with fine tannins and a long, flavorful finish

85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc. Quite dark crimson. Very fruity, polished nose. Extremely supple with tannins you really have to concentrate to discern. Sweet, voluptuous start and then a streak of greenness on the palate (notable both times I tasted it). Light and flirtatious with only just enough substance for the grandeur of this property’s grand vin. Drink 2010-16

Bright medium red-ruby. Aromas of raspberry, black cherry, flowers, licorice and spices, lifted by pepper and fresh herbs; cellarmaster Arguti describes the wine as "very Pomerol" but it also struck me as rather Burgundian. Juicy, aromatic, slightly dry-edged black fruit and licorice flavors show red berries and pepper with aeration. A very fresh and vivid style, without quite the structure of the 2006. But this is elegant and pure. Aging in 75% new oak, vs. 100% for the '06 and 05.

This is back to the traditional style of La Conseillante with fruit and finesse to the fore (less power than 2006 and 2005). Lovely purity of fruit and just the right balance for the year. Drink 2012-2020. 4 stars.

The nose is very backward with a very savoury, coffee-scented nose. It almost seems under-ripe at first – but it is not. The palate is tannic, very well balanced and delineation with no signs of greenness. Nice grip, grainy, bright blackberry and raspberry with a touch of plum towards the finish. Very focused and great length. Shows its breeding in a difficult vintage. A quietly impressive Pomerol, one that should gain a higher score after bottling. Tasted April 2008.
