La Réserve de la Comtesse 2000

Tasting Notes

An excellent second wine (a blend of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc), with medium to full body, opulent, delicious fruit, and copious quantities of black fruits intermixed with spice box, the 2000 Comtesse de Lalande should drink well for 10-15 years. It is one of the finest second wines this estate has produced.

Second wine of Château Pichon-Longueville-Lalande. Rather decadent, with berry, plum and tobacco character and a hint of meat. Medium-bodied, with chewy tannins and a medium finish.

James Suckling, Wine Spectator Weekly (27 Mar 03), March 2003

In terms of price-ratio between 1st wine and 2nd wine this is unbeatable at around one sixth the price. At the moment we slightly prefer the Segla and Tourelles de Longueville but this is a hugely successful and popular second label that consistently delivers fine drinking.
