Cru Artesano, El Reventon 2023

Tasting Notes

There's a plot in their La Reina vineyard with different soil—granite but also with a part that has a laminar structure and looks more like schist/slate and is stonier and shallower—that they harvested two weeks before the rest and bottled separately as the 2023 La Reina Cru Artesano. It fomes from very healthy and nice grapes, the first picked in the winery. It fermented in concrete with 100% full clusters and indigenous yeasts with a long but very soft maceration. Part of the wine matured in used oak barrels and part in stainless steel. It's more herbal and spicy and less fruit driven. This has more edge and is stonier and more mineral, with some austerity. 1,405 bottles and 125 magnums were filled in June 2024. Drink: 2024-2030.

A complex Gredos Garnacha revealing layers of sweet red berries, wild herbs, and tobacco leaf. The wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged 11 months in concrete, old oak, and stainless steel, resulting in a vibrant wine with a fine thread of minerality. Clove and pepper spice add a kick to the intense granitic energy displayed by the wine.

This is floral, with aromas of violets, thyme, crushed raspberries and herbs. The palate is medium- to full-bodied with bright, delicious fruit that’s restrained and voluminous. From a 6.2-hectare head-trained vineyard planted in 1978 on granitic soils between San Juan de la Nava and Navaluenga. This comes from a specific section planted in the highest part at 860 on slate soils. This has 30% whole clusters and is aged in 500L used French oak barrels. Drink now or hold.
