Tasting Notes

Robert Parker, Bordeaux Book (4), December 2003

Classy and refined in style, with firm yet fine tannins, medium to full body and a medium fruity finish. Silky texture.

James Suckling, Wine Spectator

Quite dark with a pale rim. Sweet, evolved nose – very ‘classic’. Fully evolved but nicely balanced. Great lunchtime claret for now!

16
Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, March 2006

(65% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot and 5% cabernet franc; 12.9% alcohol):

Medium-deep ruby-red. Woodsy aromas of forest floor and truffle combine with fresher red berry and cassis on the nose. Then sweeter and richer in the mouth than the autumnal nose suggests, showing a lightly syrupy quality to the red and dark berry flavors. Finishes with noble tannins, good length and a return of the syrupy-sweet note.

An excellent effort from Domaine de Chevalier, this dark ruby/purple-coloured 1998 exhibits smoky, tobacco-tinged, earthy scents intermixed with black currant and cherry fruit. There is impressive concentration, medium body, sweet tannin, and a supple, ripe finish. It should be ready to drink early, yet continue to develop further nuances and complexity for 10-15 years. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2015.
