Tasted at the château, the 2006 La Dominique has an attractive bouquet with notes of roasted herbs and cloves infusing the red berry fruit, and yes, just a hint of the Japanese nori that Robert Parker remarked upon in his note several years ago. The aromatics seem fully mature. The palate is medium-bodied with chunky ripe black fruit, grainy in texture, perhaps just a little rustic but at least it is fresh. There is just a touch of dryness entering on the ferrous finish, therefore I would be inclined to drink this over the next 8-10 years.
Very dark brownish purple. Lifted nose - very appetising. Sweet, very slightly inky palate. Inky finish. Rather dried fruit in the middle - a lack of fruity flesh. Hole in the middle.
Full ruby-red. Aromas of black plum, molten chocolate, mocha and licorice show a slightly liqueur-like aspect. Creamy-sweet and lush, with a generous texture to the black cherry, violet and bitter chocolate flavors. Finishes sweet and smoothly tannic but with good backbone. This is the first vintage to be vinified by Jean-Luc Thunevin.
Good intensity on the nose with raspberry leaf, a touch of cedar and well integrated new oak. The palate has firm tannins, harmonious with some nice Cabernet Franc lending it a savoury edge. Good length, but just a touch of astringency marring the finish. Tasted April 2007.
