Clos de Vougeot, Domaine Jean Grivot 2005

Tasting Notes

Here the nose is much more deeply pitched with attractively spiced aromas that include iron-infused warm earth notes as well as animale and underbrush hints that lead to delicious, powerful and youthfully austere big-bodied flavors blessed with ample dry extract and a linear, concentrated and driving finish. There is real energy here and while the tannins are a bit brut at the moment, this is actually fairly refined as young Clos de Vougeot typically presents itself. Worth a close look as there is real depth here. Drink 2020+

A fragrant, perfumed nose with red cherry, raspberry, rose petals and violets. The palate is plump and ripe with fleshy red-berried fruits, satin texture on the front palate but a little abrasive on the back-palate. Prickly finish with huge persistency. An obdurate Clos de Vougeot that needs time, but still destined to become ravishing and lush. Drink 2012-2020. Tasted February 2008.
