It is a well-made, elegant wine. In terms of aromatic profile, weight, and texture, it is reminiscent of the beautiful 1981, but riper and more developed. The 1997 exhibits a deep ruby color as well as sweet, ripe black raspberry and blue berry-like fruit, medium body, dry tannin in the finish, and a firm, closed personality that is somewhat at odds with this vintage's style. Anticipated maturity: 2001-2014.
