Intense aromas of dried pineapple, honey and tropical fruit. Full-bodied and superdense, with masses of fruit. It goes on and on. Seductive. Fantastic. Could be the 2003 in the remake.
Pale to medium lemon-gold in color, the 2005 La Tour Blanche sashays out with loads of baking spices, stone fruit preserves, and mineral notes with a waft of caramel. It fills the mouth with bright stone fruits and spices plus a racy backbone and beautiful harmony.
Tasted blind. Deep greenish gold. Lots of exciting botrytis notes. Big and thrilling. Pungent but neat.
Drink 2018-2040
Yellow-gold color. Restrained but very pure aromas of spicy apricot, peach and orange. Plump, glyceral and sweet, with stone fruit and spice flavors complicated by coconutty, vanillin oak. This boasts lovely purity and finishes impressively long and spicy, with a bit of oak to be absorbed.
For this cru, placed at the very top of the Premiers Crus Classés in 1855, the return to top form started in 1988, 1989 and 1990 but has sometimes faltered since. This is back to the very best. The nose has beautiful fruit concentration and elegance; the flavour is wonderfully succulent and long. A wine of real complexity and finesse. 5 stars
Very dark coppery/bronze colour. Relatively simple honeyed nose. Then masses of rich, ripe almost tropical fruit flavoured sweetness. Absolutely enormous! Extremely ambitious with a slightly burnt note. Great texture. All on the finish rather than upfront. Some very fine tannins on the very end. Set for a very long life. Very rich and round and supple. Astringency very well hidden underneath. Drink 2015-30
