Tasting Notes

The 2001 Nairac was still in barrel when I tasted it several months ago. An evolved style, with a moderate amber color as well as good acidity, it is powerful and rich although somewhat disjointed. Notes of creme brulee, honeyed pineapple, sweet peaches and other tropical fruits emerge from this big 2001. Not yet revealing all of its charm, it requires 4-6 years of cellaring, and should age for 15+ years.

The Château Nairac 2001 has quite an intense bouquet with dried quince, nougat and hazelnut aromas, slightly more oxidative than its peers and yet still attractive. The palate is well balanced with spicy notes on the entry, well-judged acidity and a lovely marmalade-driven, harmonious finish. This is aging very well and should offer another 10 years of pleasure, possibly more. Drink 2014-2025

Tasted blind at Bordeaux Index's 10-Year On horizontal. What a lovely, pure bouquet with scents of brioche, honey and fresh peaches with wonderful delineation. The palate has a slightly viscous entry, very well balanced with brioche, lemon curd and vanilla, leading to an oaky, floral finish. Very well made. This is a great Sauternes from Nairac. Tasted March 2011.
