Tasting Notes

Although this spectacular 2004 tips the scales at an astonishing 14.5% alcohol, it is an elegant white Bordeaux offering notes of honeyed grapefruit, melons, orange rinds, and lemon oil. Medium-bodied, rich, beautifully textured, and pure, it should evolve for 15-20 years.

Youthful Sauvignon aromas dominate the nose at first (hardly surprising since this is 100% Sauvignon) but this is followed by an amazing combination of sweetness and weight which follows the initial green impact and a lovely satin texture. This wine manages to be amazingly refreshing considering its natural alcoholic strength of 14.2%. Very long, this positively vibrates o the palate. Paul Pontallier feels this is the best vintage yet - and certainly with the vines replanted by the Mentzelopoulos regime at the end of the 1970s, vine age must really be playing a part.

The brilliant 2004 is the finest Pavillon Blanc (100% Sauvignon Blanc) since the 2001.
