From Stephane Derenoncourt-s estate, this reliable, soft Cotes de Castillon offers luscious berry fruit intermixed with subtle smoke, earth, sweet black cherries, currants, and hints of white chocolate as well as espresso. It reveals a round, medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, and a silky finish. Drink it over the next 5-6 years.
This has a very pure nose of black cherries, crème de cassis with fresh tobacco gaining intensity on the glass. The palate is rich and succulent, good minerality, solid and harmonious although very primal at the moment with a tannic finish that will be rounded off in the next few months. This is typically rich and opulent. I always have a soft spot for this wine, and the 2007 is no different. Tasted April 2008
Deep medium ruby. Inky black fruits on the rather closed nose. Sweet, dense and strong, with nicely concentrated flavors of cassis and bitter chocolate. Showing its cabernet side today. Has the density of material to support its firm tannins. Serious juice.
With 8ha this is no longer the micro-cuvée of early years. Lovely, layered fruit. As always fine textured with firm but fine tannins. On a par with 2006. Drink 2011-2017. 3 stars.
