Latricières Chambertin, Domaine Leroy 1997

This is extremely ripe yet elegant and almost airy even though the black berry fruit brushes against the limit of being surmature (but not roasted or stewed) with rich, round, intense and very powerful big-bodied flavors that still display the hallmark minerality of a fine Latricières on the stunningly long finish. This is sleekly muscled and while not exactly robust, it's got plenty of punch yet it avoids any sense of rusticity or undue weight. Patience will be required as this will be a long distance runner.
