Tasting Notes

Tobacco and soft brambled fruit on the nose, this is delicate and enticing, at a sweet spot for drinking. Expect touches of white truffle, campfire smoke, saffron strands, black pepper, blackberry and raspberry puree, and fresher pulses of cranberry and white pepper. 33hl/h yield, 100% new oak for ageing. Harvest September 24 to October 2.

The 2007 Figeac is a disappointing wine that really puts into context how far this estate has travelled in recent years. The aromatics take a while to really coalesce, eventually offering herbaceous red and black fruit, melted tar and bell pepper aromas, the latter emanating from the Cabernet component. The palate is medium-bodied with rather brittle tannin, very masculine in style with a firm backbone, but it comes across as rather mean and raw on the finish. I would be drinking bottles in the near future. Tasted February 2017.

Very deep crimson. Toasty nose with a hint of oak. Very fresh fruit, pretty sleek texture and just a little too much sweet oak in evidence at this point. A hint of green on the finish. Pretty inky and fades fast. More transparent than most with a very nice gentle finish. Very ‘relaxed’. Doubtless it will improve in bottle as Figeac always seems to do so miraculously. Drink 2012-2019

Good medium ruby. Ripe black cherry and licorice aromas. Moderately sweet and rich, with dark fruit and licorice flavors framed by spicy oak. The persistent, firm finish features a note of bitter chocolate. Very typical Figeac, hinting at cabernet but showing a pliant texture in the style of the year.

There is a slightly herbal edge to the black and red fruits on the nose. Very fresh red fruits show at the start of the palate and this freshness combined with firm tannins gives a hard character on the mid palate. Lots of sweeter black fruits fruit come through towards the back ensuring a richer fleshier finish

Gentle raspberry, red fruit expression on the nose and palate with the oak just a little imposing in this sample. There's freshness and length in what appears to be a fairly soft, mid-weight wine. Drink 2012-2020. 3 stars.

I like this nose: well defined, some lovely, delicate notes of red cherry, boysenberry, blackberry and a touch of wet sand. Tobacco becoming more intense. Medium-bodied, much more harmonious and refined than usual with fine, filigree tannin. A more feminine, composed Figeac with great purity and lively red-berried fruits, wild strawberry and cherry on the finish. It seems more Merlot than usual (although 40%). Good length. Very fine for the vintage. Tasted April 2008.
