Gevrey Chambertin Clos Saint Jacques, Domaine Armand Rousseau 2003

Tasting Notes

Tasted at the Burgundy 2003 dinner (non-blind.) Another stunning Clos St. Jacques, with an ethereal bouquet of wild strawberry, rose petals, morello cherry and just an overriding, enthralling sense of purity. You could never tell that this was a torridly hot growing season. The palate is sensuous, silky tannins, fleshy, lithe and harmonious, struck through with an effortless quality. Not a wine of power, in fact this is more feminine that expected with natural, wild red-berried finish. Just superb. Drink now-2020+ Tasted April 2009.

A subtle touch of wood spice frames elegant, pure and moderately ripe red pinot fruit aromas that possess nuances of plum, cassis and clove that lead to very round, supple and pretty middle weight flavors underpinned by buried structure and a stunningly complex and beautifully long finish. This is not a big or powerful wine but it brings a strikingly pretty combination of finesse, complexity and inner mouth feel. Stylish and classy.
