CDP Vieux Télégraphe, Vignobles Brunier Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe 1995

Tasting Notes

The deep ruby/purple-colored 1995 exhibits a sweet perfume of licorice, iodine, seaweed, black cherries, and plums. Dense, medium to full-bodied, well-structured, and muscular, it will be at its peak between 2004-2015.

The 1995 Chateauneuf du Pape offers the essence of black fruits. A blend of 65% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 15% Mourvedre, and 5% miscellaneous grapes, the 1995 is undoubtedly the finest wine this estate has produced since the renowned 1978. The wine possesses a roasted herb, meaty character accompanied by a lavish display of jammy black fruits, as well as superb concentration, admirable fat and density, adequate acidity, and a lusty, full-bodied finish with some tannin. Already delicious, it will keep for another 15+ years. It is one of the top wines of the 1995 vintage.

The 1995 Chateauneuf du Pape continues Vieux-Telegraphe's surge in quality. It possesses riper fruit than the 1994, a deeper purple color, and similar unctuosity, sweetness, and suppleness. A glorious nose of roasted meats, licorice, Provencal herbs, and gobs of jammy black fruits (cherries and plums) is followed by a thick, full wine with high glycerin, good acidity, and a moderately tannic finish. It should prove to be another great Chateauneuf du Pape.
This wine was tasted between June 1 and June 16, 1996.
This superb estate was one of the first to harvest in 1994, thus producing one of the finest wines of Chateauneuf du Pape. In 1995, the harvest occurred later, and that vintage is also successful for the proprietors, the Brunier family.
