Dom Perignon Rosé 1988

Tasting Notes

The 1988 DP rosé is now fully into its apogee of maturity, and is drinking brilliantly. Time and again when I drink this rosé I am struck by how much this wine resembles top-notch red Burgundy in its complexity, focus and expression of terroir, enlivened by bubbles. The nose on the ’88 is outstanding, as it offers up a winey blend of wild strawberries, red cherries, a bit of bread dough, orange rind, a lovely base of soil and a distinct note of “meatiness” not dissimilar to Gevrey-Chambertin. On the palate the wine is fullish, deep and refined, with brilliant focus and balance, refined mousse, and great length and grip on the wide open, bouncy and supremely elegant finish. Just lovely juice with years of life still ahead of it. Drink between 2006-2020.
