A terrific, classic Graves with notes of subtle smoke, black raspberries, black currants, graphite and unsmoked cigar tobacco, this full-bodied, deep, concentrated de Fieuzal is far more generous and deep than most vintages of the past. There is also a wonderful freshness and length to this somewhat oversized de Fieuzal while it still maintains its elegance and class. Drink it over the next 20-25 years. Drink: 2012 - 2037
The 2009 de Fieuzal has a taut and rather backward bouquet, but it unfurls with aeration with black olive and gravelly scents. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. This is so beautifully balanced with a nigh perfect line of acidity and a silky smooth yet persistent finish that is top class. Superb. Intense blueberry, coffee bean and toasted oak character follows through to a full body, with supervelvety tannins and a long, long finish. This is really excellent. Best Fieuzal in years.
Blueish purple. Light rather formless nose. Sweet start - too Napa Valley really! Rather drying tannins on the finish. Over extracted. Hollow. Date tasted 2nd April 2010. Drink 2017-2025.
Consistently good wines are produced here at this Irish-owned Chateau. The prices remain modest despite the quality and the wines are always typically Graves in style. Strong efforts are being made here now with Hubert de Bouard of Angelus being brought in to oversee the winemaking. It certainly seems that de Fieuzal has been "beefed up". Viscous and inky with lots of toasty new oak on the nose. Dark berry fruit, fleshy and rich. Nevertheless a lovely Graves character, tarry with roasted meat, pepper and prune flavours. This must be the best red de Fieuzal that we've ever tasted en primeur. Could be a bargain
The richness of the fruit packs out the nose and gives sweetness on the palate. Cassis is to the fore but behind is black cherry and fresher bilberry. The tannins do show all quite firm and at the moment they tend to hold back the full fruit expression. Drink 2018-2040.
Dense black red, powerful, smoky cassis nose, lots of concentration,flesh and grip, good intensity of very ripe fruit, good future. Drink 2015-25.
The finest I have ever tasted, this is an awesome De Fieuzal, with plenty of lead pencil shavings intermixed with blueberry, black raspberry, and sweet cherries. A touch of smoke also emerges from this opaque purple-colored wine. Full-bodied, with loads of glycerin, one can see the more generous, viscous nature of this vintage well-displayed, but also a terrific freshness and vibrancy. It should turn out to be a superb effort that drinks well for up to 30 years. (Tasted three times.) Drink 2010-2040.
Robert Parker added an asterisk to this wine score to signify that it is a wine he considers has the finest potential of all the offerings he has ever tasted from this estate in nearly 32 years of barrel tasting samples in Bordeaux.
Tasted at a negociant. This is showing a little over-ripeness on the nose: black cherry, a hint of prune and clear honey. Moderate definition...just a little glossy for my liking. The palate is very tannic and masculine, just pushed a bit too much in the winery. Abrasive at the moment and very dry on the finish. Tasted April 2010.
