Tasting Notes

An excellent red currant, smoky, gravelly, red fruit-scented bouquet is accompanied by a medium-bodied, plush, attractively fruity wine. The oak is restrained, and the acidity and tannin are well-integrated in this supple effort. Enjoy it over the next 7-8 years.

Mineral, spice, stone and fruit aromas follow through to a full body, with soft, velvety tannins and a pretty finish.

James Suckling, WineSpectator.com, April 2010

Silky yet solid, this focused red delivers plenty of black cherry, currant, tobacco and spice flavors, with a firm texture, well-integrated tannins and lively acidity. The long finish carries toast, mineral and floral notes. Best from 2013 through 2023. 10,300 cases made.

Tom Matthews, WineSpectator.com, March 2012

A sleeper of the vintage, this may turn out to be the finest La Garde yet made. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by notes of burning embers, charcoal, black cherries, and black currants. Medium to full-bodied, lush, complex, and already impressive, it should drink well for 10-15 years. (Tasted two times.)
