Tasting Notes

Coddington Chardonnay comes from a single vineyard about 3 kilometers from the winery that was planted in 1994. The soil here is predominately clay and the vines are all Clone 5. The 2008 Coddington Chardonnay is the third vintage of this wine produced by Kumeu River. Barrel fermented using natural yeasts and about 20-25% new French oak,.100% goes through malo-lactic. The nose is already very expressive displaying really intense ripe pineapple and pink guava aromas with a toasty/biscuit undercurrent and nuances of lime juice, orange blossom and some butterscotch. Very crisp, rich, and medium-full bodied, this opulent, satin textured wine gives a long exotic-fruited finish. It's temptingly approachable now, though it should drink best 2013-2017+. Around 850 cases were produced.

Depth on the nose there is a rich mix of ripe fruit the palate has supple fleshy peach and pear but there is balance an underlying citric freshness. Breadth of flavour at the back the rich mix fleshes out the finish. 2018-24

Exotic, earthy, savoury, fruit notes, with bruised peaches, greengage and aged lemons. Fine, elegant texture, harmonious and quite a suave, relaxed engaging wine.

Light and vivacious with a strong green streak of citrus. Delicate. Really very fine indeed and lovely to drink now, at 10 years old. Great vibrancy. A triumph.

What a beautiful, candied-citrus and cooked-peach nose! Rich and concentrated with easily enough acidity to carry this extravagance. Very long, bold finish. Drink now. Screw cap.
