Tasting Notes

Another 2007 that may turn out to be better than its 2009 counterpart, the 2007 Clos de Sarpe had yields of 12 hectoliters per hectare (as opposed to the 2009's 4 hectoliters per hectare because of hail damage). A blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, this is a massive effort, but it is the first Clos de Sarpe that can be drunk young with some degree of pleasure. It exhibits an opaque purple color, but the tannins are sweet, and not overwhelming, and the wine has low acidity as well as oodles of blackberry and sweet kirsch-like fruit intermixed with hints of minerality and spicy oak. Drink this full-bodied 2007 over the next 15+ years.
