Tasting Notes

(von Schubert Maximin Grünhäuser Abtsberg Riesling Spätlese) AP: 25 10. Two Abtsberg Spätlese bottlings were made (AP 25 and 15) with no marked differences between the two (we tasted both). Both are wow wines which are super-fresh on the nose, with green herbs and cassis to boot. They are racy, sappy and complex on the palate and razor sharp zest in the finish. These hard to resist Spätlese bottlings will please any admirer of this Estate’s grandiose wine style of the 1990s. 2017-2034

Delicate aromas of green apple, lemon oil and clover. Light and lively yet velvety on the palate, with a dominant flavor of kiwi. Rose petal and saline minerality mingle on a crisp, well-balanced finish. Very appealing.

Smoky and mineral but not such marked reduction, allowing more sweet apricot fruit to emerge. The palate is rich and mouthwatering and it goes on and on with such a lovely fresh finish. Quite sweet but beautifully balanced. (JH) 8%. Drink 2012-2025.
