Tasting Notes

Undoubtedly one of the most majestic wines ever made at Léoville Barton, this behemoth displays massive power and structure. A prodigous, saturated purple-colored effort, it boasts layers of concentrated fruit along with notes of graphite, camphor, damp earth, and jammy cassis. Immense, even monstrous in the mouth, it posseses awesome extraction and richness, but the boatload of tannin will keep it from being fully appreciated for at least a decade, possibly longer. A modern day classic; it is an authentic vin de garde for patient wine connoisseurs. Amazing vino! Anticipated maturity: 2015-2040

The 2000 Leoville Barton has a deep brick color. Wow - what a captivating nose of Morello cherries, mulberries, and warm cassis, followed by hints of tobacco leaf, tilled soil, and wood smoke, with a touch of dried lavender. The light-bodied palate delivers a quiet intensity of soft-spoken savory and mineral flavors, with a fine-grained texture and plenty of freshness, finishing long and perfumed. Very pretty!
