Tasting Notes

Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Gazin charges out of the gate with bold boysenberries, baked plums and Christmas cake notes plus hints of unsmoked cigars and bouquet garni. Full-bodied, the palate is jam-packed with baked black fruit, framed by firm, ambitious tannins, finishing long and mineral tinged. Drink 2020-2046.

Wow! This wine exceeded my enthusiastic barrel tasting notes. A big, back-strapping blockbuster from Gazin, in which the oak seems to be pushed into the background (thankfully), the wine offers up notes of caramelized black cherry and black currant fruit interwoven with mocha, white chocolate, subtle toast and hints of coffee beans and tobacco leaf. The exceptional aromatics are easily followed up by a full-bodied, powerful, broodingly backward, rich, intense wine with multiple dimensions, layers of fruit, and a sensational finish of close to a minute. This is one of the all-time great efforts from Gazin. It should be forgotten for 6-10 years and drunk over the following 30 to 40.

The 2010 Gazin has an astonishingly precise bouquet with real intensity and bravura, mainly black fruit laced with truffles and morels, becoming more ferrous with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, crisp acidity, a beguiling sense of symmetry and just a little gaminess towards the finish. What a wonderful Pomerol. A subtle red with ultra-fine tannins that accentuate a palate of chocolate, berries and nuts. Full and very round. It's refined and beautiful. Hard not to drink now but wait at least five years. Top wine from Gazin.

Very dark and lustrous with some ruby at the rim. High toned and aromatic. Very comfortable and unforced. Highly successful with real vivacity. Dry finish. Was this on some clay? Well done! Quite juicy.

Another remarkable effort from Gazin, the big, powerful, dense 2010 boasts an opaque purple color along with loads of black currant and kirsch-like fruit intermixed with licorice, caramel, mocha and toasty oak. This seriously endowed, broodingly backward cuvee requires 6-8 years of cellaring and should keep for three decades or more.

Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux 2010 tasting. The Gazin 2010 has a broody, tobacco-infused nose with precise black fruit, fine mineralité and vigour, almost citric in style. The palate is medium-bodied with a conservative opening. At the moment it is sulky and introspective, yet well balanced but patently a long-term wine that is shutting down. Firm and structured on the masculine finish, this needs at least to come round. Tasted January 2014.

The Gazin 2010 has an intense, quite opulent bouquet with intense small dark black cherries, hints of cassis, even a decadent mote of honey that are all beautifully defined. The palate is full-bodied and rich on the entry. This is a very concentrated Gazin with a powdery texture, crisp acidity and a hint of white pepper towards the long, edgy truffle tinged finish. Superb. Tasted November 2012.

Tasted at the Syndicat de Pomerol. Gazin has been on form in recent vintages. The 2010 has a very pure bouquet with superb lift and purity: black cherries and raspberry, crushed stone underneath. The palate is full-bodied with grippy tannins, very good acidity, compact and masculine, huge weight on the finish, great length and ambition. Superb. Tasted April 2011.

This is a little tight. But it shows plenty of coffee and chocolate notes and dark fruits. Full and silky. I really like the polish to the tannins
