Gevrey Chambertin Cazetiers, Domaine Faiveley 2005

Tasting Notes

A very ripe nose speaks of cassis, warm earth, menthol and that unique character of underbrush that classic examples of Gevrey often display. The textured, intense and big-bodied flavors are blessed with an abundance of dry extract as well as outstanding depth and length. But what really sets this wine apart beyond the sheer depth of material is the impeccable balance. A terrific effort built to last for decades.

Background notes of toasty oak and wood spice set off densely fruited dark berry and pungent earth aromas that complement perfectly the suave and exceptionally rich and surprisingly forward medium full flavors that tighten up quickly on the firm structured and highly complex finish that goes on and on. This is not head and shoulders above the Combe Aux Moines but there is another dimension of depth present.
