Gevrey Chambertin Champeaux, Domaine Denis Mortet 2009

Tasting Notes

Here too there is moderate wood influence that sets off extremely ripe though not jammy aromas of mocha, violets and plum that give way to powerful and seriously concentrated flavors that exude a fine minerality on the palate staining and attractively energetic finish. This is a bit too ripe for me but there is good balance and this should age quite well.

The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champeaux is a deep, sensual wine. Dark cherries, plums, licorice and smoke are some of the aromas and flavors that emerge from the glass. The wine fills out beautifully in every direction. The Champeaux is opulent, fleshy and flat-out delicious. Today the 100% new oak is just a bit prominent. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2029.
